Publications & Presentations

The goal of this intervention is to provide a plan to implement an evidence-based mental health intervention – Mothers and Babies - into preexisting HVPs using adapted facilitation to fit the specific contexts and populations. The main end users for this project are home visitors, home visiting programs, state departments of health, researchers, and policy makers. Our team is committed to communicating with all partners and interested parties, including the public, and working together to translate research into practice and to disseminate research findings.

We will share here all results of our research published in peer-reviewed journals, presented at professional and public meetings, and will continue to seek suggestions to share findings back with the public in Iowa and Indiana in meaningful ways that allow them to make informed decisions about their health.

Mothers’ Voices on Mental Health and Home Visiting in Iowa & Indiana

The findings from interviews with mothers across Iowa and Indiana emphasized the importance of mental health care that includes the whole family and reflects their cultural and religious values. Some of the key barriers to accessing home visiting programs (HVPs) included fear of stigma and judgment, cultural mismatch, and logistical challenges. Moving forward, the findings will guide the integration of Mothers & Babies into HVPs to expand mental health support for mothers in Iowa and Indiana.
